Tancredo, and the think tank he works for (the "Independence" institute) works to promote global economic policies that provide corporate welfare while cutting social spending, benefits, labor rights and job security for the general public. So, to deflect attention away from the catastrophe of "Reaganomics," Tancredo runs around the country shrieking about poor brown people invading the country. What shameful demagoguery. Needless to say, he finds a chunk of the American population that welcomes the ways in which he builds fear and resentment towards the poor, while remaining silent regarding the corporate invaders that have been ransacking the economies of Mexico and many others, sometimes with force, other times through policies like NAFTA or "economic hit-men" who work to corrupt governments in the interest of Wall Street. General Smedley Butler said "war is a racket," and this war on immigrants is no different. A great deal of money is going to be made to build the detention centers (Halliburton is in on that cash cow), the hi-tech wall, the aerial drones, the cameras and motion sensors, etc. It appears the corporate lobbyists of these industries have Tancredo's ear. If people are interested in an intelligent analysis of the immigration issue, I'd recommend the upcoming "Targeted: Homeland Security and the Business of Immigration" by Pacifica Radio host, Deepa Fernandes. And if people want to get a hands-on education and manifest some Christian compassion towards the economic refugees of Hurricane NAFTA, I'd highly recommend civic groups like "Border Links" and "Global Exchange." They recognize how the class war of the world's elite is hurting people here and abroad. It's a shame that the "Minute Men" get all the publicity. Buy this book and see what American politics is all about. Finally, a book that is willing to tell the story of American xenophobia and nativism, and admit that he too is angry that Mexicans are cleaning homes all throughout Colorado! America--land of the free -- home of the brave. I support an amendment against the desecration of the flag. Why is this congressman disseminating this hateful image to Americans. We need to set better examples for our next generation of patriots willing to fight against the army of invaders from the south. He's willing to desecrate the American flag--what about the flag of the aliens? Where's that man. Who's side are you on? Resources: |
